Why we built Teamtastic

The story behind Teamtastic: one calm workspace for startups tired of Slack, Asana, Notion, and HR tools that do not talk to each other.

We started Teamtastic after watching the same pattern at every startup: Slack for chat, Asana for tasks, BambooHR for PTO, Notion for docs, and a calendar app that never quite synced with any of them.

Each tool is good at one job. Together they fragment context. A DM about a task lives in one app; the task itself lives in another; the policy for who approves PTO lives in a third.

Teamtastic is our answer: one workspace where tasks, time off, messages, wiki, and meetings share the same data model. Quiet by default. AI-assisted only where you opt in.

The problem we kept seeing

Founders and leads at 5 to 50 person companies were not failing because they lacked software. They had too much of it:

  • Six tabs before coffee
  • Notifications from three cultures (urgent, casual, automated)
  • Standups that were really status archaeology
  • New hires lost in "where do we put X?"

We wanted a product that felt like one tab, finally focused, not another platform to administer.

What we chose to build (and what we left out)

In scope

  • Today with a morning brief, due work, and manager Insights / Friction
  • Tasks with boards, list, projects, calendar, and an org-wide pool
  • Inbox for activity and Messages for channels and DMs
  • Team for people, time off, and scheduled calls
  • Wiki for operational knowledge beside the work
  • Opt-in AI: drafts, summaries, suggested replies, Ask via the command palette

Out of scope (on purpose)

  • Infinite custom fields and portfolio PMO dashboards
  • Payroll, benefits, and full HRIS replacement
  • A chatbot sidebar that competes for attention
  • Enterprise program management for thousands of users

We are building for startups and small remote teams, not a 5,000-person matrix org.

Principles that still guide us

5 to 50 person teams. Features and copy assume you can talk to everyone in one standup.

Context, not channels. Messages sit next to tasks and people, not in a separate universe.

Governed workspaces. Invite-only, org-scoped data, Director / Manager / Member roles on every endpoint.

Quiet by default. You choose what pings you. See notifications help.

AI when you ask. No always-on bot. See AI features.

What is next

We ship in small iterations: better manager views, tighter integrations, and clearer help docs. If you are consolidating your stack, we would love you to try it.
